Carlos Santana estuvo por nuestra media isla por segunda vez anoche y hasta el momento, no hemos visto quejas al respecto. Nuestro amigo Manuel Betances estuvo por allá y degustó cada detalle de lo que ocurría en Altos de Chavón, en la ciudad de La Romana.
El evento comenzó muy puntual: la contraparte criolla, Fernando Echavarría y la Familia André, amenizaron por media hora al público para calentarle la pista a Santana. Por casi 4 horas, la audiencia fue al pasado con los mejores éxitos del guitarrista, desde los años 60s hasta la actualidad. Cientos de aplausos no pasaron desapercibidos en este lugar.

27 years ago I was fortunate enough to attend the Concert for the Americas at Altos de Chavon. That epic night I saw Tucaro and Da Band, the local counterpart, the magnificent Heart and Carlos Santana, who Chango played a bad joke on that night and poured storm rain on him cutting his performance short.
For 27 years I have lived with the memories of that magic night. Heart’s performance was one of their best live performances ever I believe, and Santana’s, well, cut short as it was, theres no words to describe what was lived. They tried playing several times, they got to do their first song ok but then the rain started. Many efforts where done to cover the equiipment from the rain and there were long waits for the rain to stop, when it did stop Santana started playing but so did the rain start to fall again only this time they didnt stop, they played under the rain and I saw water bouncing madly off congas and guitar strings. Santan is said to have cried that night because he really wanted to play.
Even though Santana was the main attraction that night, Heart ended up stealing the shoe with the rain as it accomplice.
Last night that chapter was closed when Santana got to play again to a full house Altos de Chavon, he rocked all time and he recalled those 27 years ago when he couldnt finish his performance, I didnt see many faces from back then, but for the few of us who where there then and also last night, its two unforgettable nights.Regards,
